Drive On My Own Foundation

A driving solutions provider for people with reduced mobility.

Because freedom isn't a privilege, it's a right that moves.
We put the wheel in your hands, and the world at your feet.

WHAT WE DO

  1. We train. We offer personalized driving training on adapted, retrofitted, and hand-controlled vehicles, tailored to each individual’s specific mobility needs and built around their pace, their confidence, and their road readiness.
  2. We guide. We provide expert consulting on car modifications and assistive technologies, cutting through the fragmented, hard-to-find information that has for too long been the biggest barrier between a person with a disability and the right vehicle for them.
  3. We include families. Through our signature Conversation Over Coffee sessions, we bring families into the journey, building understanding, addressing fears, and turning hesitation into a shared celebration of independence.
  4. We change systems through sensitization training. Through disability sensitization workshops at corporates, academic institutions, car dealer networks, and automotive ecosystems, we reshape how people see, speak to, and serve persons with disabilities.
  5. We build community. Through camps, consulting sessions, and a growing knowledge base, we connect people across cities who are asking the same questions and finally give them answers.

HOW DO WE DO IT: THE 4D FRAMEWORK

Everything we do is built on four simple words that carry a lifetime of meaning:

Dream → Dare → Do → Drive

Dream: We start with the person, not the disability. We ask: what does independence look like for you? What does driving mean for your life? We help learners articulate a vision of their own freedom.

Dare: We challenge the voices (internal and external) that have said: “This isn’t for you.” Through community, counselling, and lived-experience guidance, we build the courage to begin.

Do: We train. Hands on the steering wheel in a modified vehicle. Our structured, personalized training program on retrofitted vehicles is where the dream becomes a skill.

Drive: The road is yours. We support learners through RTO licensing, vehicle purchase decisions, modifications, and the transition to independent driving, and we don’t disappear after the first solo drive.

A Defining National Moment

Kaun Banega Crorepati

October 4, 2024 | S16 E40

After securing her second Paralympic gold medal, Avani Lekhara appeared as a special guest on Kaun Banega Crorepati.

On national television, in front of millions of viewers, she made a powerful and deeply personal gesture, she donated her share of the winning amount to the Drive On My Own Foundation.

This was not a planned endorsement. This was a choice.A choice shaped by her own journey, her training experience with Drive On My Own, and her belief in the mission.

With Avani Lekhara, we are committed to expanding access, breaking barriers, and enabling more individuals with disabilities to take control of their journeys. Because when those who break records stand with you, you don’t just move forward you redefine what’s possible.

Our impact

Every number here is a person who went somewhere on their own.

At Drive On My Own Foundation, impact is not a report we produce once a year. It is the moment a learner drives home alone for the first time. It is the job they keep. The appointment they make. The road they own. Here is what that looks like in numbers and in lives.

I may not have legs. But I have wings.

That free fall taught me something profound—
to stop worrying about the future and start living in the present. But the most transformative moment of my life didn’t happen in the sky.It happened on the road. The day I drove a car independently for the first time,
something shifted within me.
No waiting.
No asking.
No depending.
Just me, making my own choices. And I realized
Freedom is not about movement.
It is about control over your life.

Steering Smiles

Behind every smiling face is a moment of transformation

For many of our learners, driving a modified car is not just about learning a new skill; it is about reclaiming control over their lives.

The first time they take the wheel, hesitation slowly gives way to confidence, and dependence turns into independence. Simple journeys going to work, meeting friends, or stepping out without relying on others become powerful milestones.

What you see in these smiles is more than happiness; it is dignity, freedom, and the quiet pride of knowing, I can do this on my own.”
